"Human dreams; rubbish heaps abundant yet ephemeral sudden and splendid, only to wilt and perish."-Jonathan Safran Foer Tree of Codes

This piece was very very short-lived. As soon as people started looking at it (sweating near, breathing on, or even licking it), it started to sag and melt. It began absurdly light, fluffy, delightful; over-the-top optimistic to mirror the absurdity and hubris of human effort against the forces of entropy and chaos. Under the cotton candy is a modular origami star, which allowed for the underlying structure to slowly become visible, in the way that as things senesce, a complex internal order is often revealed.
It is paired with microscope photography because these scenes are also extremely ephemeral yet expansive. Sometimes I exhale and my subject will completely disappear. The microscopic world lends a sense of perspective to the cotton candy- it highlights the ability for us to create whole worlds with our deeds despite how tiny they may be against the backdrop of reality.
